“Empowering Adolescent Girls for the 2025 Academic Year”

Thuso Foundation Back2School 2025 Campaign The Thuso Foundation proudly presents the “See Her Thrive” campaign, an initiative designed to empower adolescent girls in Township, Informal Settlements, and Hostel (TISH) schools across South Africa. Our mission is to provide essential educational resources and support to help these girls reach their full potential within the Basic Education System. Campaign Context TISH schools are classified as Quintile 1-3 under the South African Government’s system, which means they are no-fee schools serving the most disadvantaged communities. While these schools receive government subsidies, the funding is insufficient to cover basic educational requirements.
These schools face numerous challenges, including:

• Overcrowded classrooms
• Lack of learning resources
• Deteriorating infrastructure
• Limited parental involvement
• High levels of illiteracy within the community
• Language barriers
Additionally, many adolescent girls struggle to afford basic menstrual hygiene products, such as
sanitary pads. This unmet need has severe consequences:
• Increased absenteeism from school
• Feelings of shame and embarrassment
• Declining self-esteem
Without intervention, these issues can significantly disrupt a girl’s educational journey and limit her future opportunities. Our Solution
This festive season, TF has partnered with Dear Bella Pads, a trusted supplier, to provide 100 units of reusable sanitary pads to 50 girls identified by School Governing Body (SGB) teams. However, this is just the beginning. Our goal is to donate a total of 500 units of pads during the campaign period, which runs from 20 January to 20 February 2025. By addressing this need, we aim to ensure these girls can attend school with confidence, dignity, and the ability to thrive.
